Qualifications needed to study at FIT LabWe give serious consideration to all applicants, including those with non-standard academic qualifications. Our usual minimum entrance requirement is a second class honours degree, or equivalent, with at least 6.5 (with no component less than 6.0) for IELTS. Although we do not require students to have an in-depth prior knowledge of computing, relevant experience is clearly an advantage and can be as important as academic achievement. For applicants who offer a significant background in computing we will offer alternative modules (for example from Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EBMS or Mathematics) to substitute for some of the few masters modules that contain material they may have already covered. We have available a pre-session course (CS-M01) which can be taken to bring students up to speed with Java programming. Mature-age entry requires the candidate to be over 25 with at least two years relevant/responsible experience. This is usually taken to be experience in a real-world environment, real design experience, and more than just ECDL level computing experience. We require references from all mature-age candidates and referees are asked to comment on whether or not they believe the candidate is capable of graduate level study. | |
